A Stress Free Way to Learn to Apply Stucco?

A Stress Free Way to Learn to Apply Stucco?

Looking For a Local Contractor Fast?

December 12, 2006

So you want to learn to apply stucco but you are not sure if you have what it takes to pick up the skills necessary?  Put away your doubts, because anyone can stucco.  All it takes is a little time, a little practice and a little bit of fun.

When you set out to learn to apply stucco get yourself a good guidebook or basic directions from an internet resource.  Then buy small quantities of the materials you need so that you can practice.  Do you have any scrap pieces of plywood or wall board?  Secure them to a wall in your work area and start applying stucco.  It may feel awkward at first but the more you practice the more comfortable you will feel.

Don't worry if the results are not perfect the first few times you try your hand at applying stucco.  Just try to relax and have some fun with your mistakes. Experiment with different colors and textures to see how they look in different combinations.  Try out different size trowels and other tools to see the differences between them and how they each can be used.

This hands-on approach is a great way to practice your stucco technique. You'll probably make quite a mess in the process, but that's okay because you put down plenty of drop cloths and other protection for nearby floors and tools, right?  The bottom line is that you can learn to apply stucco without ending up frustrated or unhappy.
