Tips for Painting
One of the quickest, easiest and least expensive ways to spruce up your home is by painting. A fresh coat of paint, whether inside or out, can brighten up and even change the look of your home.
Choosing a new color or color combination is one reason for painting. This is a lot of fun, as you can look at all sorts of potential looks. If you are undecided about a particular color or color combination, experts suggest that you buy a pint or a quart of the colors you are considering, take them home, and apply a small section of those paints to the appropriate spot in your home. This is an excellent way to see what your ideas look like actually on your home and in the ambient light.
Even painting with the same color can make a room or the outside of your home look fresh and new. Most home exteriors need fresh paint every six to eight years, depending on the color, the climate, the exterior materials and the quality of the existing paint job. Interior rooms will need paint at varying intervals, depending on the traffic patterns, location in the house and color.
Painting
The most important part of painting is not the painting itself – it is the quality of preparation. The surface must be clean, free of chipping paint and surface imperfections, and any holes or other problems repaired. This is especially important for outdoor painting, as the exterior portions of your home are subjected to much harsher treatment thanks to weather.
Be sure to set yourself up with the right tools for the job. If you plan to use paint rollers, for example, choose the roller cover that is the right texture and material for the surface you will be painting. Select appropriate brushes for trim work, corners and other tasks that are best done with a brush. If a paint sprayer is the tool of choice, be sure that you have all of the supplies you need to mask off windows, fixtures, and anything else that you do not want to spray.
