Tips to help you turn dull drab concrete into vibrant beautiful creations.

Painting Concrete Floors

Painting concrete floors brings new life to dull drab grey concrete. It's important before you begin to paint to make sure your concrete is able to provide good adhesion for the paint you apply. Concrete that's been sealed often doesn't provide good adhesion. To determine if your floor has been sealed you can tape the corner of a small piece of aluminum foil on the floor. Leave it for about twenty-four hours. Peel back the foil. If there is moisture underneath, this mean your concrete hasn't been sealed.

If you"ve heard horror stories about painting concrete floors, don't despair. The main reason paint on concrete floors cracks, peels or discolors is due to improper preparation before the paint is applied. Advancements in the quality of paint for concrete has made it a very appealing solution.

Preparation before you begin painting concrete floors will determine the success of your project. It's important to thoroughly clean the concrete. Grease spots, stains and any debris on the floor will result in poor results. Once the floor has been cleaned, it's a good idea to let it dry at least twenty-four hours before applying any primer or paint. You don't want to trap moisture underneath the paint.

You"ll want to apply at least two coats of quality primer and stain blocker making sure to let it dry completely between applications.

Now you're ready to begin to paint. Don't try to cut corners on the paint. Get good quality paint. Paint on at least two, possibly three coats of a good latex flat paint. You can use your imagination to create geometric shapes, faux tile, stone or whatever you choose. Let dry completely.

Now for the final process. You"ll want to apply two coats of a sealer using a roller. Again, let dry thoroughly between coats. Now your dull concrete is revived and vibrantly colored. Plus, the floor is easy to maintain.
