Save the Environment and Your Cash With Geothermal Residential Heating and Cooling

Save the Environment and Your Cash With Geothermal Residential Heating and Cooling

Looking For a HVAC Contractor Fast?

October 4, 2007

There is an almost limitless supply of energy that you can use to heat and cool your home, and it is literally right outside your front door. Geothermal residential heating and cooling is cheap, clean, renewable, and much more efficient then traditional heating and cooling methods.  It uses heat stored in the ground from the sun to heat and cool your home.

The concept of geothermal residential heating and cooling is not as complex as it may sound.  A high strength thermal plastic pipe system is buried underground in a loop configuration. The pipes are filled with a water/antifreeze mixture.  This mixture circulates through the pipe drawing heat from deep within the ground to a geothermal unit in your home.  The unit then intensifies the heat using the principles of compression to arrive at a temperature suitable for residential heating.

Geothermal Residential Heating and Cooling

Cooling your home is almost as simple.  The geothermal unit in your home draws heat from the inside of your home and then transfers it into the ground via the buried loop of pipe.  Your refrigerator works the same way, only instead of transferring the heat into the air, geothermal cooling transfers it into the ground.

Geothermal residential heating and cooling is not only a simple concept, but it is efficient as well.  The only energy needed is the electricity required to operate the geothermal unit in your home.  This fact allows geothermal units to be 300%-400% energy efficient and give you $3 to $4 dollars worth of heating or cooling for every dollar of electricity you spend operating the unit.  Compared to the 98% efficiency of most modern gas furnaces or the 250% efficiency of heat pumps, it's easy to see that you can save a bundle by using geothermal heating and cooling.

One great aspect of geothermal heating and cooling is that it is renewable.  It uses the heat from the sun that has been stored in the ground for thousands of years as opposed to burning fossil fuels.  With pollution increasing and the cost of oil on the rise, geothermal heating and cooling makes sense for the earth and your pocketbook.
