Faux finish painting is a completely different technique used to give illusions to your walls. It is simply using sponges, rags and other tools and items to create certain patterns and illusions with the paint. This technique is becoming more and more popular because people are realizing just how easy it is to create. This technique will work on just about any wall material, including wood. All you have to do is prepare the surface of your walls the same way you would if you were painting with regular paint.

To determine the right faux finishes" texture you must learn about the paint choices and application types. First, you must find the right base color for your room. How it works is, you will apply one or two different accent colors over the base coat to get your texture.

Your better choice for base coats will be regular latex paints with an eggshell or flat finish. For the accent colors, you want to keep the same finish as the base choice. It can either be in the form of latex or alkyd-based.

The great thing about latex is it is easy to clean up but it also dries fast.
