Follow these steps to add metal roof coating

The first step before you can add any metal roof coatings will require you to prepare the surface for proper adhesion. It is a lot like painting because you are going to be painting the coatings on the roof. In fact all new-galvanized metal surfaces shouldn't be treated for ninety days or so to allow for curing.

Before you can even think about adding metal roof coatings you should have any questionable area looked at closer. You should examine every area of the roof for repairs and have them fixed if necessary.

Next the roof must be cleaned from all debris such as leaves, dirt and more. It is even a good idea to pressure wash it for a better clean. Any sitting water must be properly drained and removed because you cannot add metal roof coatings to wet surfaces, it must all be dry.

Metal Roof Coatings

Before any coating goes on you must make sure to use primer. This is especially true for any rusty spots on the roof. Primer must also be allowed to dry for up to forty-eight hours in some climates.

The next metal roof coatings should be an acrylic elastomeric roof coating. When putting the first coat of this on you need to apply it perpendicular to the ribs of the metal on the roof. Allow to dry for approximately twenty-four hours then re-apply in the opposite direction or parallel.

After this you can add optional metal roof coatings. The acrylic elastomeric clear coat is like a gloss you can put on top of everything to keep debris and elements from affecting your roof. This coat can significantly reduce future needs for maintenance.

When you are adding metal roof coatings to your roof, keep the temperatures in mind. You do not want to coat a frozen surface, wet surface, extremely hot surface or dirty surface. Also do not attempt a metal rood coatings project in temperatures below forty or that exceed one hundred degrees if you want the best results.
