Refinishing floors is one of the most common home improvement projects that a homeowner can have done.  Contractors site the garage and basement floors as some of the more popular floor jobs they are offered regularly.  For those industrial like floors, many homeowners decide on liquid floor covering.  The first thing that comes to mind when you think about liquid on the floor is paint.  Paint can certainly be used successfully in many applications, but there are other high quality products out there designed to give you the most secure coverage and good looks possible.   Here is a brief look at some of the options your contractor is likely to go over with you.

Since we have already mentioned paint, we might as well start with that one.  Paint can be used on garage or basement floors with success.  However, this liquid floor covering is usually more durable when it has some additions made to limit peeling and wear.  Especially in the garage, many contractors prefer to add sand or some other kind of abrasive to the mix.  This helps to prevent slipping when the surface of the floor is wet.

Another good option for a liquid floor covering is the polypropylene copolymer tile products.  Most garage floors are cement, so when you choose to industrial strength tiles, you have the luxury of having your contractor use one of the strong epoxy liquid floor coverings.  Your contractor will have plenty of suggestions about how strong it needs to be.  Deciding on which one is right for your application needs will have a lot to do with what your garage is used for.  If it is pretty much a standard garage with tool storage and car parking, one of the light weight epoxy products should be just fine.  If you are into serious car rebuilding, it’s going to be necessary to choose one with more industrial strength built in.

As mentioned, with this type of project, you will find you don’t have a better resource than your contractor for information on liquid floor coverings.
