There are tons of drywall textures to choose from when you are ready to redo the walls in a room of your home.  One of the challenges of redoing the walls in any room is choosing whether or not you want to add a drywall texture.  If you decide to add one, you need to apply it correctly and evenly so it doesn't look unattractive once it is dried and painted.  For this part of your home remodeling project, keep your own skills in mind.  If you don’t have a lot of creativity or skills with paint or plaster, you may want to consider a simple drywall wall texture finish rather than a more complicated one.

You can choose any of the more popular textures for your drywall wall texture finish, or you can simply make up one of your own.  The three most common texture finishes are lace, swirl, and skip trowel.  All of these can be done by the average weekend home remodeler, but it is important to remember that as with all home remodeling projects, a drywall wall texture finish can be very frustrating at first and will require quite a bit of practice.

Drywall Wall Texture Finish

Lace drywall wall texture finish is done using a stiff bristled brush.  You pat the wall with the brush and create a pointy texture.  You wait a few minutes for it to dry and then you knock down or flatten out the points leaving you with a lace-like pattern.  Swirl drywall wall texture finish is done with a trowel; you use a short swirling motion of your hand to create a repetitive swirl in the wall.  For skip trowel drywall wall texture finish, you will need a textured plaster; the textured plaster will create a vibration under the trowel, making the skipping pattern of the skip trowel technique.

If you can't seem to master any of these techniques of drywall wall texture finish, don't worry.  You can use different aspects of all of these techniques to create your own unique finish.  The only real rule of drywall wall texture finish is that the pattern is regular and even throughout the walls.
